Why it's important, and safe, to book your next appointment.
Teethscene and Smilescene want you to know that we are still here for you during these difficult times. We closed our doors for hands-on dental treatment in March 2020 to keep you safe. Since we reopened in June, we have been largely limited to providing emergency care.
The Covid-19 pandemic has put huge strain on the NHS and this has changed the way we work and how you can access dental treatment. NHS financial support for dental treatment has been reallocated to other parts of the healthcare system, PPE has been limited and social distancing between staff and patients has become the norm.
Operating on an emergency basis has allowed us to provide dental care to those most in need. However, we are increasingly concerned about the oral health of all our patients. We now have a backlog of thousands of patients overdue for their routine dental examinations. These regular check-ups allow us to identify conditions such as tooth decay, gum disease and oral cancer early in their development and to improve the chances of positive treatment outcomes.
Our levels of care must return to those we saw pre-Covid. However, in the next six months as restrictions continue, our Dentists are limited to the number of NHS treatments they can perform each day. As we work to see all of our patients and guarantee our usual high quality dental care, we will also continue to offer private treatments, independent of the NHS.
Maintaining good oral health is an important component for good overall health and we want you to know that it is safe to book a routine dental examination with us. The health and safety of our staff, patients and community has always been our top priority. We have been proactive and have privately invested in additional safety and cleaning protocols that exceed standard practice. They ensure the highest quality of disinfection of our practices and staff – and allow us to continue to offer care safely.
Our practices were among the first in the UK to invest in Electrostatic Disinfection and Air Purification systems. The disinfection system uses the principle of electrostatic induction to effectively distribute disinfectant into the air and onto surfaces. We exclusively use the sanitising solution GX2 in all our practices. This solution is a wide-spectrum disinfectant that has a 99.99% kill rate against a range of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses and fungal spores. Importantly, the solution is effective against enveloped viruses including coronaviruses.
We have also invested in AEROGUARD 4S - anti-virus air purification technology. This technology is able to remove up to 99.97% of micro particles, bacteria and viruses from the air and subsequently uses ultraviolet light energy to damage these micro-organisms. We are proud to be in a positon to be able to see all of our patients safely. In addition to these measures, all of our patients and staff undergo Covid-19 screening questionnaires daily and have their temperatures checked before entering the building.
